Competence Centre for Breast Surgery and Breast Health
At Luisenkrankenhaus hospital, we offer our patients all-round care, 24-hour availability and treatment tailored to their individual needs. For breast cancer patients, we offer a highly specialised team of doctors and nurses as well as access to the best possible diagnostic and therapeutic methods.
The Luisenkrankenhaus hospital in Dusseldorf has stood for decades for excellence in senology. With more than 3.000 patients and 700 operations a year, the breast centre in Dusseldorf is known far beyond its national boundaries. Alongside excellent medical care, the clinic offers outstanding services and the quality of stay of a hotel. And all of that just a few minutes away from airports and railway stations.
The two chief physicians, Dr Darsow and Dr Möller, head up a team consisting entirely of female doctors and nurses: “Together, we work to cater even better to the needs of our patients – woman to woman.” Each of our patients has a fixed contact person throughout their entire treatment.
In addition to excellent medical treatment, the holistic approach at Luisenkrankenhaus hospital also includes outstanding accommodation at the level of a four-star hotel with a familial atmosphere, specialised care and psychological counselling and support.
With a focus on breast cancer treatment and more than 700 operations per year, our specialists are also always on the leading edge of research in the field. Between 75 and 80 per cent of patients are able to keep their breasts after surgery.
Our doctors individually select precisely the right treatment for each patient from all the conservative and operative options available and carry them out quickly and with expert skill.
You can look forward to a variety of meals at Luisenkrankenhaus hospital. We also offer a selection of vegan and vegetarian meals. Our team can also cater to any food allergies you may have.
Our experts set particular store by holistic care and consultation for patients as well as gentle treatment methods. Allow us to introduce our two chief physicians:
We offer our patients access to new therapeutic procedures as part of national and international studies.
If you are interested in taking part in a study, Dr. Athina Kostara, MHBA, specialist in gynaecology & obstetrics with a focus on gynaecological oncology, and our study administrative office would be happy to provide you with more detailed information as part of a consultation.
Internationale Senologie Initiative e.V., an international breast cancer organisation, with Board Member Dr Trudi Schaper, aims to be a place to turn to for all women. One unique aspect of the initiative is the ISI self-help group, the only institution in Düsseldorf that provides equipment to patients free of charge for cooling their scalps, hands and feet during chemotherapy.
We offer our patients a naturopathic visit. By complementing conventional medical treatment with naturopathy, we can support our patients during the treatment period with regard to side effects, strengthen their resistance and reduce the risk of relapse. Our specialist medical advice ensures the effectiveness and safety of the complementary methods.
Our GynOnco department extends the range of services offered by the Breast Centre to include the field of gynaecological oncology as well as palliative medicine and naturopathy. Our vision: to treat an illness in the best possible way, but at the same time to create an environment in our chemo outpatient clinic where you feel comfortable as a patient. A place of therapy, but also a place where you as a patient are heard and where everything is done with great empathy not to lose sight of your quality of life.
Since 1997 Luisenkrankenhaus hospital in Düsseldorf has stood for outstanding medicine, care and accommodation. For more than 20 years, our patients have relied on – and given top marks to – our medical expertise, which has been recognised across regions, and our dedication to providing the best possible care.
This is backed up by the F.A.Z. study in 2018. From more than 1,000 tested hospitals, Luisenkrankenhaus achieved a very good ranking among the top 100. In 2021 Luisenkrankenhaus hospital was honoured with a GHP Healthcare & Pharmaceuticals Award in the category of Best Breast Cancer Treatment Specialists in Germany.
In addition to the specialist expertise and experience of our staff, Luisenkrankenhaus hospital sets great store by the quality of your stay in our rooms: with furniture fit for a hotel, a stay in one of our wards offers both a premium experience as well as a familial atmosphere. Additionally, we offer all patients naturopathic visits and consultations.
Generous rooms with select furniture and fixtures contribute to the rapid recovery of our patients. Our patients can choose from a wide range of meals in our well-lit and open dining hall. Our friendly nursing staff is always there for our patients.
Both the inpatient services of Luisenkrankenhaus as well as the Breast Centre get top marks from me. The doctors and nursing staff are always friendly and eager to help. Very empathetic and knowledgeable consultation before and after the operation.
Jameda review, April 2022
After several breast cancer operations, I had surgery at Luisenkrankenhaus for the first time. I have never felt so comfortable in any other hospital. The breakfast and dinner were served as buffets – great!!! Despite of the coronavirus restrictions, I was able to talk to other women or have time to myself, whichever suited my mood. I already knew Dr Ünyeli. She took the time and had the patience to explain everything to me this time as well. [...] The nurses also took time for me and treated me with great care – thank you to them!

Luisenkrankenhaus is a place led by passion and heart which is dedicated to the recovery of breast cancer patients. This specialisation is the foundation for the highly competent staff and the outstanding level of professional care. But the holistic approach to treatment is almost more important. The fantastic team does everything in its power to see to the wishes of us women. Physical therapy, bra advice, psycho-oncology, social counselling and conversations with former patients – that’s how to get healthy.
